Obituary For Catherine Allison Featherstone

Born on 20-12-1967, Catherine lived a life of compassion, elegance and courage. Her kindness and sageness touched the lives of many and had a heartfelt impact on family and friends.

A devoted wife, mother and friend, Mum always put others needs ahead of her own. Her unconditional love and her resolute support brought comfort to me and so many others. When I was living 7500km away, just the sound of her voice on the other end of the phone made me feel so close to her and would brighten my day immeasurably. I hope she knew how much I could feel that.

We were all so blessed that God allowed Catherine to be with us for so long. When Mum was first diagnosed with cancer, I can remember praying to God. Praying for healing over my Mum, I told him that I was not ready to lose my mother. I believe that, in his infinite wisdom, God knew it would take time for us to prepare for this. Even if God had given her another twentry years, we still wouldn’t be ready. We are never ready to lose someone we love so much. Moreover, when we lose a mother, someone very special and irreplaceable: the person who brought us into the world. It can feel lonely without the very woman who gave me life, but I know that through God I am not alone. God gave us five more years with my Mum, through his wisdom and mercy. When the pain and suffering became too great for mum, God, with compassion, brought my mum to glory.

Though Mum is no longer with us in body, the impact her life had on the lives of so many, will live on forever in all of us. May she rest in eternal peace.

Proverbs 31: 25-28: Strength and dignity are her clothing, and she laughs at the time to come. She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue. She looks well to the ways of her household and does not eat bread of idleness. Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her.
