Obituary For John David (Jack) Michie

Jack passed away peacefully on May 16 with his loving wife Louise by his side. Jack will be greatly missed by Louise, and Jack’s step children Christopher (Charlotte), and Carrie (Billy); beloved grandchildren Caitlyn, Cai, Adison and Logan; brother Bob (Mari) and their family; and a host of friends and relatives. Jack is predeceased by stepson Chad Collingwood, parents William and Helene Michie and brother Jim Michie.

Born in Eston, Saskatchewan Jack grew up on the family farm where he played hockey and baseball from a young age. Jack's family moved to Saskatoon in 1957 and then to White Rock in 1963 where he graduated from Semiahmoo High School in 1966. After graduation, Jack went on to pursue his passion as a hockey player in the WHL for the Seattle Totems. He was named Rookie of Year in 1968-69. Jack played professional hockey for Seattle and Tulsa from 1968-73. Jack continued to play hockey for many elite teams and oldtimers. An all around athlete, Jack was also an exceptional fastball player who played shortstop on many competitive provincial teams. Jack was volunteer coach for Semiahmoo Minor Hockey and a member of the Canuck Alumni for many years. When his professional hockey career ended, Jack went on to fulfill a 32 year career working at Telus receiving accolades for his work ethic.

Jack was kind, patient, a good soul, and a hard worker. He made friends easily, a dedicated teammate, and enjoyed having a good laugh. Jack enjoyed watching a variety of sports, helping others, working in the yard and shop, and spending time with family at the lake. Jack leaves behind memories of love, compassion, and a commitment to people and his teammates. Many thanks to Morgan Place for their loving care.
