Obituary For Margery Ellen Krauchek

Margery was born in the fall of 1936, harvest time on the prairies, to Steve Krauchek and Clara Lech, a happily married young couple. Two short years later Margery’s father was killed in a farming accident. As a young widow and single mother during the Depression years this little family had a difficult time but were loved and supported by their family and special friends. Mr. and Mrs. Dumont played a significant role in Margery and Clara’s lives. “Margie”, as she came to be called, was everyone’s sweetheart, loved by all.

The Dumont family were instrumental in the move to BC where Margie went to high school and graduated from university with a nursing degree. Her career in cardiac and intensive care took her to California for several years until she returned to work at Peace Arch Hospital in White Rock. She often spoke fondly of her time in the US and of her beloved pet dog, Jiggs.

Margie met Edward and Eva, both new to Canada, at a gathering. Margie, thinking they were a couple, offered to show them around, but it turned out Edward had his sights set on Margery and the rest is history! A wonderful memory we have of Margie and Edward is of beautiful, fresh-picked holly that they would send west at Christmas time.

Often remembered as our “young” cousin, she was young at heart and loved to laugh. A keen observer, she shared wonderful stories, remembered in great detail. Returning often to Saskatchewan, always camera in hand, she took many photos of the beloved Notukue Creek area, especially prairie sunsets. She loved searching for arrowheads and making perogies and cabbage rolls while gossiping with aunties at Uncle Adam’s. During one such visit, when acupuncture was a new thing, someone called it “aquapuncture”. Margie chuckled delightedly, saying, “I always learn so much about medicine when I visit Saskatchewan!” Can you see the twinkle in her eyes and hear her laugh?

Margie loved to travel and visited South America, Mexico, Hawaii, Egypt, Israel, Petra, Ireland, and made several trips to Poland. She loved going to the casino and poker games with her uncles; shopping and jewelry; doing puzzles; good food and her favourite restaurants. She was a collector and cherished her memorabilia and treasures.

Margie, you were one of the finest. We are all just walking each other home and it has been a great pleasure to have had you on our paths.

You are loved and will be remembered. Rest in peace, dear one.

Margery was a kind hearted lady whose presence and laughter made the day brighter. We have memories of joyful visits and meals together. Margery definitely had the gift of hospitality. She will be missed by her Victoria cousins. Melanie Lech
