Obituary For Peter Stanley Joseph Langdon

What a life lived!

Peter Stanley Joseph was born in Chilliwack, British Columbia to Anne and Peter Langdon Sr. While his early years were spent on Anne’s family farm in the Columbia Valley, Peter was raised in Burnaby, BC where he attended St. Francis de Salles, Morley Public, Edmonds Junior and Burnaby Central.

Always a skilled worker, Peter had a diverse job history. From jockeying gas at Crest Plaza, building pre-fab homes to operating mills at Mablo and AM and Hudson. He was always working, so while he was physically unable to work due to an injury, he had time to meet the love of his life Shelley (nee Tucker) from Ontario at a bar in Burnaby.

On April 30th, 1983 Peter and Shelley made their love official at small, intimate ceremony at Christ Church Cathedral in Vancouver. Two years later on September 1st, 1985, their first child Laurie was born. Wil followed in 1988 and finally Sam in 1991.

In 1995 after Japan was rocked with a devastating earthquake, Peter was part of a group of Canadian builders who relocated to Kobe for a year to help rebuild affected areas.

When he reunited with his family in 1997, Peter started his long standing career as a Scenic Carpenter in the film industry with IATSE891. This is where he was mostly known at “Easy Pete” and he definitely was, always there to listen and offer his skills where he could.

Over the years he aquired many monikers that also defined him: Uncle Peedley, Pick-up Pete, (Difficult) Dad, Papa, Gramps, among others. A soft man who loved his garden, his LEGO, his grandchildren and a good party, but when he told you to “step up to the plate” you listened.

After winning a fierce and prolonged battle with prostate cancer, he was ultimately taken from us by COPD. Predeceased by his daughter Laurie Elizabeth, and his beloved Mom and Dad, his light will be missed most by “Mom” his wife of 40 years, Shelley. Wil, wife Amanda, their children Liam and Kelsyn. Sam, partner Kaeley, their child Micah. Daughter-in-Love Karen and his grandson and namesake “Little Peter” and lastly, his sister Diana and her Husband Mike.

Special thanks to Colleen Reiley his Nurse Practitioner, Dr. Kim Chi and his AMAZING team at BC Cancer.

I am sorry for your family's loss, he was a kind and gentle man and I was so lucky to have been in love with your maid of honour as I got to meet you both. Shelley I will keep my memories of Peter in my heart and mind. Please know that he was and is an inspiration for me in my battle with that dreaded disease. Stay strong and feel free to text me anytime. Thinking of you both, Grant.
