Obituary For Robert Maria Guterres
We are deeply saddened to announce the sudden passing of Robert on February 24, 2021 at Peace Arch Hospital in White Rock, BC after a short but courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Robert leaves behind his loving wife of 47 years Catherine, his sons Stephen (Dana), their children Anna, Brendan, Olivia of Georgetown, ON, and David (Kristine) of Langley, BC. Robert was also predeceased by his father, George and mother, Betty and survived by his 3 brothers, sisters-in law, niece and nephews and many relatives and friends around the world. Born in Hong Kong, sports were always a big part of his life. Growing up he played field hockey, softball, badminton, cricket and tennis but it was golf that became his lifelong passion. As a longtime member of Quilchena Golf & Country Club, he passed that passion on to his sons and his grandson too.Robert will be remembered by many as someone they enjoyed being around and will not soon be forgotten. A memorial mass will not be celebrated immediately, details will be provided at a later date in hopes that his friends and family can gather to remember him together. We would like to extend thanks to the doctors and nurses at both St. Paul’s Hospital in Vancouver and Peace Arch Hospital in White Rock for all the care and compassion that they provided to Robert and the family.

It has been such a positive experience of getting to know our neighbours, Bob and Catherine, and their friendship has been a blessing. Although we knew there was a health concern for Bob, we felt a sense of loss on word of his passing. We think of so many times of sharing concerns with our friends and the wise counsel given. Bob did respond graciously to a transportation need we had on a rainy day and this was appreciated and never forgotten. We do think of Catherine and all the family and pray that they will be comforted, encouraged and blessed by so many good memories of life shared together through the years. We extend our condolences, as well as thoughts and prayers for you at this time. Elmer and Shirley Pavey

So sad to learn of Robert's passing. Truly one of the most gentle and nicest persons I've had the privilege to know. I will never forget our impromptu tour of the many interesting sites not listed in tour books of San Francisco (most of which will remain our secret). Rest In Peace my friend.

Dear Catherine Stephen and David Our families first met in the late 70s. We had just moved to the west coast and Bob and I were working for the same bank. We became friends and played many rounds of golf together particularly at Quilchena along with many family get togethers. The only thing Bob loved more than golf was his family. Bob was warm, kind and had a sharp wit. A life well lived. May your fond memories of Bob be of some comfort at this time. Gord and Enrica Huston

One of my earliest and happiest memories of Robert, was when I first met him. I believe it was 1972, on a solo trip up to Vancouver. There was an automatic click, and I enjoyed his easy going and joking nature. One habit we seemed to start happened after dinner, with him asking, "hey Geri, want to go to Dairy Queen? And off we'd go with Catherine. This past Sunday, while in Napa, after dinner, I passed by the new version of Dairy Queen. And I heard him say, " hey Geri, want to go to Dairy Queen?" Robert, you're missed, but great memories live on. Happy Trails my friend, until we meet again!
