Obituary For Siu Yin Louie (陳小燕)

It is with great sadness that the family of Siu Yin Louie (陳小燕) announces her peaceful passing on Sunday, August 28th, 2022. In her final moments she was surrounded by the love of her children and grandchildren, whom she cherished dearly. She lived a blessed and beautiful life of 98 years.

Siu Yin was born on June 12th,1925 in Wing Woo, a village in Toishan County, Guangdong, China. Her father Gee Ho Chin and mother Tin Foon Lau, lovingly raised Siu Yin along with her older sister, Yuk Ho.

She married at the age of 16 and quickly matured into a devoted mother. World War II separated Siu Yin from her husband. Sui Yin and daughter resided in China while Sum Fong worked in the Philippines. After the war, the couple reunited in China and later moved the family to Hong Kong in the 50s to establish a successful convenience store business.

In 1973, she immigrated with her family to Vancouver, Canada and hoped for a new chapter that would have advanced her children’s opportunities. She was fortunate to have seen and witnessed her children grow out and blossom families of her own. She was a mother, grandmother and great grandmother to doctors, pharmacists, engineers, pilots, lawyers, accountants, scientists, musicians, artists, police officers, successful business owners and pillars of society.

Even though family came first, Siu Yin still enjoyed a life of her own. She vacationed with her entire family to exotic locales throughout Asia, the Americas and the Caribbeans were some of her favourite memories. She was a member of the Vancouver Chinese Alliance Church and was formally baptized on the Easter weekend of April 20, 2014.

Siu Yin was predeceased by her dearly missed husband Sum Fong, older sister Yuk Ho and younger half-sister Joanne.

She is survived by seven devoted daughters: Dale, Nancy, Linda, Natalie, Josephine, Louisa, and Annette and two adoring sons: Dan and Michael.

She also leaves behind twenty-three beautiful grandchildren: Wendi, Gary, Sandra, Laura, Harry, Lisa, Donna, Audrey, Julie, Stephanie, Jeremy, Adrian, Cyra, Tricia, Lukas, Dudley, Johannes, Josiah, Jadon, Mikayla, Ryan, Dayna, Devon as well as twenty precious great-grandchildren: Caitlin, Shannon, Yi-Yong, Yi-Xiong, Yi-Quan, Madison, Lexie, Brendan, Gavin, Tristan, Amelia, Severine, Aidan, Catherine, Nicholas, Claire, Paige, Ashton, Reece and Arielle.

In addition, Siu Yin is survived in the memories of her half siblings Barbara, Shirley and Jui Chin.

The Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, September 13th at 10:00 AM at the Unitarian Church of Vancouver, 949 W. 49th Avenue, Vancouver, BC. Guests are welcome to enter at 9:30 AM. The burial will follow suit at 12:30 PM at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, 3789 Royal Oak Avenue, Burnaby, BC

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in honour of Siu Yin Louie sent to the Vancouver Chinese Alliance Church Mission Fund via INTERAC e-transfer to the email address: donation@vcac.ca.
