Obituary For Timothy Joseph Philip Cassidy

Tim left us unexpectedly on July 6th, 2023, at the age of 49. He will be sadly missed by his loving wife Aileen, step-mother Mary, mother and father-in-law Cecilia and Henrique, brother Michael, sister Talli (Craig), step-sister Cynthia, sister in-law Elisabeth (Dave), and many caring uncles, aunts, cousins, friends, and colleagues. He is predeceased by his mother Carole, and father Gordon.

Born in 1974, Tim and his siblings were raised in Kingston, ON. He earned both Bachelor’s (Honours) and Master’s degrees in Computing and Information Science from Queens University. Tim built a career in the video game industry in Vancouver, working for several companies to hone and expand his skills. With his code, he breathed life into virtual worlds that brought joy and entertainment to countless lives.

Tim was an avid swimmer and a true outdoorsman. He particularly looked forward to annual trips back home to meet up with a group of close friends and head out on canoe camping trips in Ontario’s Algonquin Park. Eventually, he combined a commitment to physical fitness with his love of swimming and bicycling by becoming a determined triathlete, competing in several grueling meets in British Columbia including an Iron Man in Whistler.

Tim was a happy-go-lucky kid when growing up. With an infectious “trouble making” grin, he had a gift for spreading laughter wherever he went. His quick wit and an uncanny ability to find humour in everyday situations could turn even the dullest moments into something hilariously memorable. Although distance prevented frequency, Tim always looked forward to visits with his maternal family from Nova Scotia, where his continuous banter, zany dance moves and dedication to causing laughter was much beloved and won’t soon be forgotten.

Tim waited longer than many to find love, but he had no doubts when he found Aileen in 2010. They were married in 2015 in an informal, picture-perfect summer wedding on the Sunshine Coast of BC. Aileen has been his companion and most ardent and unwavering pillar of support since they met.

A heart as big as the outdoors he loved often led Tim to help those less fortunate to find their feet and get back on track. He was also quick to go out of his way for those he loved, offering a place to stay when relatives were in town, arranging a plane trip home as a surprise birthday gift, helping a new graduate with a long move back home from university (funny story about an exploding futon on the 401), spending time with his youngest relatives, making them feel special and seen, and endearing himself to their parents in the process. He was deeply committed to helping make the world a better place, as well, introducing members of his family to KIVA, an organization dedicated to giving back to the world through microloans. It is impossible to know just how many dreams Tim helped to make come true, how many lives he changed through this organization, and how many lives he changed by simply being himself. His generosity (and all the laughter) will resonate in the memories of those who had the privilege of knowing him.

May Tim and his tender, generous heart rest in peace.

A Memorial ceremony to honour and celebrate Tim’s life will be announced at a later date.

Donations may be made in Tim’s memory to KIVA ( or the Crisis Line in BC (
